I want to move to Portugal and become a resident, but getting a 12 month rental agreement is out of the question as I do not know where I want to settle down. How can I start the residency process if I don't have an agreement. I am not looking to buy either.

I wonder if you would cover how mixed-racial couples would fare in various of the popular retirements spots? I know in some places, this is still not an embraced concept. Are there are areas that are popular with Chinese who would like to retire overseas, that is not China? Thanks much! This series sounds awesome, looking forward to it!

So many questions, so little time. I live alone. No wife, no ex-wife, no children. One might think that the world is my oyster. However, you try attending to all the details alone sometime. How's that working for you? I need a buddy. You gotta buddy for me?

Tired of all the divisiveness at home? Ready to explore your overseas options?

On a budget from $2,000 to $3,900 a month (all-in—housing and extras included) you could live comfortably in lots of safe, warm, friendly spots abroad where the pace of life is civilized… and politics stays in the background. In fact, you can live well for even less in some spots.

If you feel uncertain about the future, and you're ready to pull your go-overseas plan together—just so you have it ready—then join us for our LIVE How to Move Out of the US Workshop next Tuesday on our NEW Community Forum. It's FREE for you as an IL member.

The Community Forum is our new, interactive platform designed to connect you with International Living members and our experts–a space where you can help each other travel better… discover new places… live more affordably… and enjoy the world more.

At this inaugural community workshop, host Jennifer Stevens, IL's Executive Editor, will welcome a panel of our experts including:

    • Jeff Opdyke, IL's Global Finance Expert
    • Ted Baumann, IL's Global Diversification and 2nd Passport Guru
    • Suzan Haskins, IL's Senior Lifestyle Editor

Plus, we'll also include a robust group of expats living all around the world.

Our experts and expats will share their hard-won experience and insights about what you need to do to create a "Plan B."

Don't miss this event exclusively for IL members—the first of a series of workshops we'll be hosting on the topics that interest you and our community most.

I don't have a clear path to withdrawing from my nest egg. I have a 401(k), a Roth IRA, a rollover IRA, and some taxable mutual funds. Can you offer a broad based, this is what I would do, scenario? That would be helpful. Grazie tutti. (I want to retire in Italy)

How do I sign up? Or will there be a recorded version? It is right during my work hours, so a recording would be good.

How do I avoid double taxation on dividends, interest and capital gains? I live outside the US now. My Social Security & pension income is not double taxed due to a tax treaty in place with the US. However investment returns are. Please advise on this tomorrow.

According to a recent bulletin, Starting in 2025, Americans will have to pre-register before traveling to any of the countries in Europe with the new screening system called ETIAS. ETIAS is valid for three years, or until your U.S. passport expires, whichever is sooner. To get ETIAS, you need to: Register online, Provide your U.S. passport details, Provide your personal details, and Provide information about your trip.

The system will check the security credentials and charge a fee to travellers visiting EU member countries for business, tourism, medical or transit purposes. ETIAS is a travel authorisation for travellers not requiring a visa to visit Europe. These visitors will undergo additional security checks prior to being permitted to enter the EU. The ETIAS will be mandatory for citizens of countries including the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Please provide more detailed information about this -- It seems confusing. Thanks!
