The Best Regions in the World for Retirement 2025

    [vimeo url=https://vimeo.com/event/4836646/2176fc3026]

Whether you envision mornings on a Mediterranean coast, afternoons exploring colonial towns, or evenings in the crisp mountain air, these regions represent the very best of what their countries have to offer. With input from on-the-ground correspondents and local expats, we’ve highlighted the neighborhoods, cities, and rural retreats that promise an unparalleled retirement experience in 2025.

Our full report points to 20 regions... on our workshop here, we’ve chosen a selection of them to focus on. Joining host Jennifer Stevens will be Bel Woodhouse, IL’s Mexico Correspondent; Tuula Rampont, IL’s France Correspondent; Bart Walters, IL’s Thailand Contributor; Terry Coles, IL’s Portugal Contributor; and Jessica Ramesch, IL’s Panama Editor.

You can also read about our six up-and-coming regions to watch for 2025, here.

i have been unsuccessful in finding a contact person in Mazatlan to assist in renting a condo there for 6 months of 2025. I would appreciate any recommendations from Lee Harrison. Thank you,

If there is conflict in Panama as China resists giving up control of the Canal and China pushs Anti- American sentiment, should we move there?

As a single woman, I am looking for safe locations to move to that stretch my dollars. I understand the potential of Panama, but am very concerned about future conflict, especially as a single person. I have never lived out of the US, so would be looking for locations with strong and supportive expat communities.

I would like to stay in Europe beyond the 90 days allowed. Which visas in Europe would allow us to stay for a couple of years without taxing our income earned in the US? I would consider renting or buying in the right areas.

We want to explore different countries for retirement with reasonably good weather all year around. We want to try them out during winter. What resources can be used for finding one month rentals of fully furnished apartments or houses? Is there a list of resources for the top 20 countries in the January issue?

I am a solo female, somewhat disabled traveler. I was planning to tow my tiny house down to Panama to become an official resident, and to attend the Panama conference. But the US Travel Advisory warned against entering Nicaragua because the gov't is targeting Americans for some not so nice things.

So now, after looking at all of my reasonable options (Belize, Canada in the dead of Winter, Portugal), it looks like Mexico (which was originally my first choice) is where I'm hoping to go; first to Baja to find my bearings, and then on to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico (via Mexico City), where I will feel much safer.

I've done a lot of research, but I still feel like I'm going in blind. I'm looking forward to hearing what the expert from Mexico has to say.

China does not own or run the Canal! Panama does!

The only one trying to claim the Panama Canal is Donald Trump. The US gave Panama the canal back. USA has absolutely no rights to the canal; nor does China or any other country. US built the original canal on Panamanian territory. Panama has since expanded the canal for larger cargo carriers that are used today. If Trump decides to take the canal by force he will be breaking the most essential internstional law, that of each nation's sovereignty. just like Putin, that would make him a war criminal that any country could arrest if he steps out of the USA.

I may have a suggestion that could possibly help in your question about staying in Europe beyond the 90 days. Even outside the Schengen Region the other European countries normally only allow Americans and Canadians to stay in their respectable countries for a 90 day visit without a visa extension. However there is a country who absolutely loves Americans and will allow you to stay past the 90 day visit is a country that packs in so much beauty with a very low cost of living. That country is known as Albania. Americans and I believe Canadians as well can stay in Albania for an entire year before they need to exit. Like the Schengen Region and other European countries you would have to leave for 90 days before entering the country again. However there is a great option which I believe is open to pretty much anyone from whatever country you are from. A purchase of any real estate no matter what the price is of the property will automatically allow you to obtain permanent residency. It doesn't matter if it's a studio apartment/condo or a large castle, it will allow you the opportunity for permanent residency. I myself is thinking of taking advantage of this opportunity. Located right on the beautiful Adriatic coast north of Greece and south of Montenegro. A beautiful corner of the world. Hopefully this suggestion may help you.

China’s influence in Panama is a function of their having financed the expansion amd modernization of the canal, since their ships are the primary users (shipping stuff to US consumers). The US declined to help with the canal and China agreed to help. Panama is much more tightly linked to the US than anywhere else. They even use the US$ as their national currency!
