Hello everyone
My girlfriend and I have been looking into a possible overseas move for the past year or so. We have found the resources here at IL very helpful.
Last November we went down to Costa Rica for gten days, staying in Liberia for the first night before heading over to La Fortuna for four days. After that we went to Tamarindo for five days. We loved it there but decided to do some more investigating.
This September we went to the Azores for a week. It was amazing! I am originally from Massachusetts so it's great that it's only about a four - five hour flight between Boston and Punta Delgada. We also loved the fact that it doesn't get especially cold in the winter or hot in the summer, and that there are no mosquitos!
We would like to do an extended stay in both places, probably for two - three months. One of our biggest questions at this point is health insurance. Specifically, what to do about our health insurance here in the US. We are both on private insurance, and for the two of us our total per month is roughly $2,000. We know that we would want to have travel insurance if we were to stay somewhere for up to three months, but is there some way to avoid having to maintain our US health insurance during our time overseas? It seems crazy to have to pay so much money when we won't even be in the US for three months or so.
I saw something recently about short-term health insurance but it is not allowed in WA state, so I didn't look into that very much.
Thanks for any suggestions!
