MOVING TO MEXICO

IM 78 YEARS OLD HAVE TRAVELED TO MEXICO OFTEN BY AIR OR TRAVERSED THE COUNTRY BY CAR ,ALL THIS OVER THE LAST 35 YEARS . I AM NOW READY TO MAKE NTHE PLUNGE ,MY WIFE PAST TWO YEARS PLUS .MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE HEALTH SYSTEM I HAVE
VERY SERIOUS HEART ISSUES .FOR NOW I CAN GET PRIVATE INSURANCE EXPENSIVE BUT OK .IM ISSURED BUT FOR HOW LONG ???? I DONT KNOW .ITS IMPERATIVE THAT I MAKE THE MOVE WHILE IM STILL INSURABLE ,I HAVE VISITED ‘’CHAPALA ‘’ MANY TIMES HAVE SPOKEN TO CARDIOLOGIST AND HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THE SYSTEM .
HOW DO I ENTER THE HEALTH SYSTEM AND I LONG WOULD IT TAKE TIME IS OF ESSENCE ….AS I GET OLDER IT GETS MORE EXPENSIVE AND DIFFICULT ….WHAT DO YOU SUGEST ..I LIVE IN BC .CANADATHANK YOU

Hi Gilles, I'm Bel, the Mexico Correspondent. As soon as you become a resident you can enter the health care system. I would recommend making an appointment with your closest Mexican Consulate and applying to get the ball rolling.

My husband and I lived in Sonora, MX for over 10 years and joined the Mexican Healthcare system, IMSS. We did not go through the consulate. We went to the regional IMSS office with a local friend and worked directly with them. It required a couple of trips and the proper paperwork but was fairly simple. Each year we returned to the same office and renewed our insurance and payed our annual premium. It did not matter that we were temporary or permanent residents.
