As a single senior, I would like to know if there are any retirement communities in Panama that offers residents the option to transition to "assisted living" facilities within the same residential complex when their health begins to decline. -
Greetings. I'm new to this community and would greatly appreciate some experience based input. I'm from Vancouver, BC, Canada and have experienced two life changing shifts since March of 2023. I've since been navigating my way through the aftermath and am now within a couple of weeks of beginning the process of creating a new life for myself and my intention is to go international. Places presently on my radar screen are Mexico, Panama, Portugal, Spain and Italy (perhaps Sicily?). A friend living in Lake Chapala Mexico is suggesting I begin by going down and checking out that area for awhile, which I intend to do. I lean more towards being by the ocean but am open to other possibilities. On my criteria list are a comfortable, reasonably temperate climate, a small to modest size town or city with opportunity to engage in community, access to good food and wine, and affordability. My interests are travel, cooking, photography, and music. My recently deceased wife and I spent 6 months in Ecuador about 10 years ago and very much enjoyed the experience, but I don't see that place as being what I'm looking for. Any suggestions or perspectives will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm 62 year old single man looking to find a city to move to with a good adult singles scene. My guess is it would need to be farly large metro to accomplish this. any recommendations in Mexico, Columbia, Panama, spain or Portugal. Other cities are open to look at as well. Thanks

We are researching the Italian Alps-area to rent and eventually purchase.
there are two considerations. #1- we live in south Florida and summers are hot and humid. So summer weather needs to be cool and dryer.
#2- my Wife likes France and speakes it well; so she woukd like to be close the France
Which area should we ve researching?
We have applied for dual Citizenship with Italy.
Thank you,

I don't know , but I want you to know this. Up near the nicer hotels where affluent tourists stay, there are jelly fish in the water. The beaches look lovely. Further down the coast do NOT go in the water. Where the water touches the sand , the sand is like cement. There are millions of mounds of sand with pockets for dips or valleys. Maybe 3 to 5 inches high and low. You can tear the skin of your feet if you enter the water. This is the important part. There are sea urchins, dark color, with all their stinging spines, huddled down in the pockets . DO NOT GO IN unless you want one to hook into your foot or more. I learned this back in 1975. Things might have changed, but I doubt it. I wondered why I was the only one on the beach. As I slowly approached the shore, a young Mexican man came frantically running down the beach to me , waving his arms, yelling in Mexican to stop. I conversed with him with my limited Spanish and he pointed where to look to see the danger. He saved my life. I will never forget him. He was so sweet and kind. So, I am passing this forward. It is hard to believe it has been 50 years!
About 13 +/- hotel owners met in June, 1975 to try to get more tourists to come to Matzatlan. Then, the town itself seemed very poor, but the northern beach area witht he upscale hotels seemed lovely. The town was well-known for ocean fishing done by the tourists. They wanted to create an image and be like Alcapolco. I thought they had a lot of work ahead of them, since I had been there , too.
I personally would never want to revisit Matzatlan. If you need a place, I would contact the hotels. They may have a long-term arrangement in-house or with a neighboring business. Everyone knows everyone in that "hotel world". They need money and want your business.
Be careful Be aware

IL provides a lot of information about the Costa del Sol in Spain, but very little about the Costa Calida (other than specific warnings about the Mar Menor). We visited the area around Cartagena on a recent cruise and were very impressed by the area. Is it possible to get more information about this region of Spain?

What kind of information can you share with me about Ireland and retirement possibility there?
