After my year long visa in Slovakia ends can i travel to Iraly on a 90 day tourist visa or must i leave the Schengen Zone for at least 90 days before returning?

If you have a long term residency visa in Slovakia, then it does not count against your time in the Schengen zone. You should be able to travel to Italy and remain for 90 days or anywhere else in the EU.

Roxanne, thank you for the your questions. Generally VISAs in most countries allow you to stay indefinately. We have to renew our VISA every two years. BUT I am not famil, iar with Slovakia nor am I a Visa Lawyer. From that perspective you should be able to visit italy for 90 days without problem.
