Question about Maltese citizenship by decent
-
My father and I are trying to determine if we are both eligible for citizenship by decent in Malta. My grandfather was born in Malta prior to Malta’s independemce and so were my great grandparents. My father has not yet registered and we are pretty sure he is eligible. I am unsure about me because I was born between 1962 and 1989 and my father was not a citizen at the time of my birth.
Thoughts? The Application makes it seem like I need my father to have already registered before I was born. Is it worth both of us applying.
Does anyone know?
Thanks

If your father's father (your grandpa) was born in Malta before 1 September 1964, then your father Is automatically a Maltese citizen. You do not automatically acquire Maltese citizenship from him; but you can apply for citizenship by registration on the basis that your father is a Maltese citizen as were your grandparents and great grandparents. To pursue this, you'd need to contact the Malta Citizenship Agency, get the application, gather all the documents that prove your ancestry, and submit your case.
