Hi, we're looking for mid-term rentals of 1-6 months in Scotland and Portugal--and ones that will accept our cat . Thanks!
I'll offer similar advice as I did to Alan researching Panama. Start start by looking on AirBnB, VRBO, etc. Also look at local realtor websites—they often have rentals. Look by location...in other words, Google “rentals Edinbrough.” Another good resource is Facebook. But do a good amount of research on taking pets. At one time, the UK had a quarantine requirement. Not sure if that is still in effect, but you will want to find out.

Since the AirBNB model has been so downgraded in Spain, what are the best options for finding a short-term apartment rental (1 to 3 months) to do a test run to see if it might work as a retirement home. what are some options that won't break the bank? I'm thinking of Valencia, Asturias, and Andalucia as options.
Thanks! -
I would like to know how the yield number is calculated when buying a RETA property.
thank you for your time in this!!!
We'll need to move this Q to a RETA discusssion... this is not my area of expertise, sorry!

I'm currently in Mexico for close to five months, and at first found my apartment via a property manager, now I pay the owner directly. I'd like to go to Costa Rica, Italy, and Spain for a few months too, and need to know how and where to find the short term rentals and I realize it depends on the city and province/state in that country.

I am looking for the best place to find long term rentals in the Coco, Costa Rica area. Most of the sites have long and short term rentals mixed together and it is difficult to tell what properties are available for 12 months or longer leases. Is there a source that is exclusive for long term rent/lease?

How do I join today's Q & A session?

Currently on a scouting trip in France. Realtor said, since we are retired, we will probably need guarantee insurance so the renter will approve us. Then an expat told me about a company called Garantme that helped her. What other obstacles might we encounter

When doing slow traveling, what are economical ways (short of a shared dorm in a hostel) of finding lodging for short-term stays (1 to 5 days) in Southern Europe?
Thanks! -
Took mea minute find that it's simply a text based Q&A. Write your Q and she should respond

Hi Suzan:
I have been contemplating relocating to another country for quite sometime. I originally came to the US from Bombay, India over sixty years ago. The Christmas 2022, I visited Mumbai, where I still have some family, and decided that the air over most of the places there is rather unhealthy, and would not like to live there.
I have come up with a list of what I consider desirables, and would appreciate your suggestions, using your extensive travel experiences. I am now 91, but still quite young, except that 13 years ago I fell 8 ft and suffered a spinal compression fracture. which is now limiting walks, and have to use a walker. Following is my list of preferences -- Clean, healthy air
- Milder climate
- Fresh vegetables available within walking distance. Am a vegetarian.
- don't need a car. (I would like to stop driving)
- Where it is cheaper to live. In California it is getting out of hand.
- Language-wise prefer English. But if I had to I can learn another language.
- Have to have a place where streets are fairly level. Last Christmas I visited Guatemala, where most towns had uneven cobblestone streets, and I could not walk anywhere with my walker. Unpaved streets are okay, as long as they are fairly even.
Thank you for your considered opinions.
Hemant Parekh
Hello Hemant, not sure what "milder climate" means to you or what kind of specifics you are after (beach, mountains, city, small town) but I'd point you to Panama, Portugal, or southern Spain.

This is completely useless. I thought we were going to hear her talk to us. I concur with the comments about doing a Teams meeting with chat - never will find what I need this way. If there was no intention to have an actual call - no need to set a time. Very disappointing.

Hi Suzan, love this opportunity to ask questions. I have several LOL! Hopefully they will also help others.....
IL has recommended asking for a discount on all rentals but when I ask on those hosted through Air BNB they always say they can’t change the price listed there. Suggestions?
-
Like others, I expected a live conversation using Zoom or similar online communication app. Was my expectation wrong? If not, does someone have a link?
-
I am planning to spend 3 months in France, Italy and Croatia to research living arrangement for a permanent move in a year or two. I would like to meet other IL members for coffee and I appreciate any IL connected housing.
