As a single woman, I am looking for safe locations to move to that will stretch my dollars. I am looking for strong expat communities for singles, if possible. I prefer to rent, as this will be my first time living outside of the US. Willing to go car-free. Also concerned about Panama.

i have been unsuccessful in finding a contact person in Mazatlan to assist in renting a condo there for 6 months of 2025. I would appreciate any recommendations from Lee Harrison. Thank you,

I don't know , but I want you to know this. Up near the nicer hotels where affluent tourists stay, there are jelly fish in the water. The beaches look lovely. Further down the coast do NOT go in the water. Where the water touches the sand , the sand is like cement. There are millions of mounds of sand with pockets for dips or valleys. Maybe 3 to 5 inches high and low. You can tear the skin of your feet if you enter the water. This is the important part. There are sea urchins, dark color, with all their stinging spines, huddled down in the pockets . DO NOT GO IN unless you want one to hook into your foot or more. I learned this back in 1975. Things might have changed, but I doubt it. I wondered why I was the only one on the beach. As I slowly approached the shore, a young Mexican man came frantically running down the beach to me , waving his arms, yelling in Mexican to stop. I conversed with him with my limited Spanish and he pointed where to look to see the danger. He saved my life. I will never forget him. He was so sweet and kind. So, I am passing this forward. It is hard to believe it has been 50 years!

About 13 +/- hotel owners met in June, 1975 to try to get more tourists to come to Matzatlan. Then, the town itself seemed very poor, but the northern beach area witht he upscale hotels seemed lovely. The town was well-known for ocean fishing done by the tourists. They wanted to create an image and be like Alcapolco. I thought they had a lot of work ahead of them, since I had been there , too.

I personally would never want to revisit Matzatlan. If you need a place, I would contact the hotels. They may have a long-term arrangement in-house or with a neighboring business. Everyone knows everyone in that "hotel world". They need money and want your business.

        Be careful Be aware

IL provides a lot of information about the Costa del Sol in Spain, but very little about the Costa Calida (other than specific warnings about the Mar Menor). We visited the area around Cartagena on a recent cruise and were very impressed by the area. Is it possible to get more information about this region of Spain?

Looking for town but much to see and experience, laid back but totally fun, no cold weather, at least close to a beach, perfer walking, friendly and neigborly. Is that to much to ask? It is for my sister and I and we would like to move in the next year. Looking to spend no more than $2k a month for the both of us. Thank you. Perfer for a easy transition!
