Hi Deborah, There are many Facebook groups that pertain to Portugal like Americans & Friends PT, Expats Portugal, Silver Coast Our Home and many more. Reach out to expats who live in those areas to find out when their meetups are or to meet with individuals one on one to chat. The first group mentioned is based in Cascais near Lisbon so they can be of help. Happy Travels, Terry Coles Portugal Contributor

I heard someone talk about that and said they had rented an Air B&B for a short term and used that address. I can't say that it is the best suggestion, just something I heard. Hopefully someone will suggest something better but I don't see a lot of people answering posts.

Hi there! Sorry this went unanswered for so long—I realize you’re already in Portugal by now, but I hope this thread can help other people who are in the same boat. Regarding the transportation of household goods to Portugal: Once you have a residence visa, you can bring used household goods into Portugal duty-free. “Used” means items that have been in your possession for at least six months; mixing new items in may slow down processing in customs on arrival and incur charges. The shipment must arrive within 12 months of your visa being issued and within four months of the issuance of your shipping documents to avoid fees. Does he mean if I pay 25% rate in U.S. and Portuguese retirement taxes are 40% I pay an additional 15% on my retirement income? JSWIGART2 - Yes, your understanding is correct.

I too am trying to find a permanent home in Portugal. I have visited many times. The South is probably the nicest area if you like year round sunshine and never too cold. Porto is very nice up north but it tends to get high rainfall in Winter. The south is the most expensive place to buy a property. The silver coast has some interesting coastal towns. Lisbon is probably the cheapest Capital City in Europe to purchase property and is a beautiful city. Good Luck. Ian

Your link to Ted Baumann is nothing more than link to sales pitch to spend $300 on his research papers. No capability to communicate with him.

Hi @KAKIFRY_DP Thanks for your question! We’ve checked in with Glenda Cole to get an answer to your question, here is her response, Like much of the world, temps have indeed increased in Portugal over the last few years. This kind of heat is unusual, but we had a similar heat wave across central Portugal and Spain two summers ago. I live in the beautiful Algarve on the southern coast, where the sea breezes offset this heat.

This was her response, In the Algarve, pretty much all private docs speak English. In Lisbon and Porto, it requires a bit of research on their websites to find a doctor that speaks English. If you are moving to Portugal, you want to research a general practitioner who speaks English. They will then refer you to any specialists you need, keeping in mind that you need an English speaker. My doctor is South African. She speaks better English than I do. Thanks for the information about researching a general practitioner.

Thank you. Sounds like they make it complicated, and will require keeping track of investments and gains from those. Still probably worth continuing conversions overall though.

Hi @CNUGENT1 Thanks for your question! We’ve checked in with Glenda Cole, our expert in Portugal, to get an answer to your question. Here is her response, First, that type of renting is called long let. When searching, enter "long lets in _____". Idealista.com is a great site for both buying and renting, but it can be difficult to find just a month or two there. If you have a general idea of what area you would like to explore, you can look for long let companies in that area. Typically, going local can save you money. For example, I rent my villa near the sea in the Algarve in July and August. You can find it on Air BnB, but you would save quite a bit by going through my local management company, Luz Villa Rentals. Before I bought, I used to rent in the western Algarve for three months in the winters. I used two companies: Lagos Long Lets and Coolhouses Algarve. Both were good.

I suggest you download Idealista and you easily draw a map of where you want to live and they notify you of all rental properties in that area. You will easily find an apartment in Caminha for between 600 and 800 Euros per month. Good Luck it's a great place to live
