We are planning to move our 2 dogs to Portugal and have the same concerns. We ended up booking travel from CA to Paris, and then we will travel by land to Portugal (no direct flight to Lisbon yet). We have booked flights on K9Jets, whilst it's not cheap, I'm not sure that one of my dogs would survive being in the cargo hold, so to me it's the cost of getting out of the US
Congratulations! We are visiting Braga and Porto next April for our first visit. very interested in potentially moving to Portugal. Was the decision to settle in Gaia done over many visits to Portugal and didferebt locations or from what you learned here one IL?
I tried to send this earlier, but I don’t know if it got to you. My name is Michael Spang I noticed Terry Coles name in the fast track 2025 Europe attendee information pack. It states that she can be reached at GAR wife’s space coles@yahoo.com.
This was our itinerary. It was a whirlwind trip and I'm not sure it really gave us a feel for any area, other than the Algarve. My wife didn't like the beach life that much. Neither of us were interested in the busyness of Lisbon. We loved it on the Silver coast and up North. We plan to go back and spend a couple weeks in the North before we retire.
Day 1 Porto
Day 2 Porto
Day 3 Porto - Douro Valley
Day 4 Porto - Averio & Nazare
Day 5 Drive to Lisbon with stops on the Atlantic coast
Day 6 Lisbon - Sintra
Day 7 Lisbon
Day 8 Lisbon
Day 9 Quarteira (Algarve)
Day 10 Quarteira - Sagres
Day 11 Quarteira - Lagos - Benagil Caves
Day 12 Quarteira
Day 13 Lisbon
I am planning to retire next May and am getting truely obsessed with the idea of moving to Europe (right now it's Portugal, but who knows until I do more research). My plan is to rent out my home here in the US and rent in Europe for 1-2 years (or more if I love it). I want to use it as a base for travel to the rest of Europe. I keep reading that I'll be able to live off my soc security in Europe, I can't do that in the US. And I'm feeling more and more like this country is no longer my heart and soul.
Hi Ted,
Thanks for your post on April 9 recommending a Portuguese tax attorney. My wife and I are going to Portugal this summer, with a hope of applying for a D7 retirement visa when we come back to the U.S. Would you recommend Ms. Jardim to help us with this, as well? We are looking around Vila Real, in the north of the country, if that gives you any guidance about recommending someone we can work with in that part of Portugal.
Thanks so much!
Charles Harmon
@83DONV-0 Hi there,
I'd like to help you find this article--can you give me any more information about it? Do you know roughly when this article was published, or when you might have read it?
Depends on what help you need. If you are applying as the descendant of a citizen of those two countries, There's a process for that. If you're looking to qualify by naturalization, that's another route. Can you clarify which way you're trying to get citizenship?
