I am retiring the end of July and plan to do a scouting trip to Portugal for 2 months in Feb. 2025. Also going to the Costa del Sol region of Spain, the Canary Islands, and Malta - these trips will be April through June. All trips for the purpose of making a truly informed decision that best fits me. By the way, you're not crazy. Have a back up plan so if you don't like it after 6 months to a year, you can always return to the US. That's one of my back up plans. The other is that I can try each country for a few months and then decide. Since the Shengren area has a limit on how long you can stay in any of its nations, hoping over to the UK is a great option. That way, you're still close enough to the EU to return without flying back to the US.

I'm new on here and looking at Portgual also. My sister and I are making arrangements for our first visit. I would be the one moving. I' bought the Portgual Bundle but can't access it yet. What are some good Ex-Pat cities? I am an artist, (Painter/Sculptor) here in the states, that also has retirement income. We want to visit this summer, what cities (outer cities) would you all reccomend. Thanks Ted Gillespie

I began in Lisbon then caught the train to Porto. I then used the train to return to Nazare. I then caught the train back to Sintra. From Sintra I caught the train back to Lisbon then Cascais. I trained back into Lisbon where I caught the Bus from Sete Rios to Portimao. From there I caught the bus to Lagos. From Lagos I caught the train to Tavira. Next trip I want to visit central Portugal

    Hi Ted,

Thanks for your post on April 9 recommending a Portuguese tax attorney. My wife and I are going to Portugal this summer, with a hope of applying for a D7 retirement visa when we come back to the U.S. Would you recommend Ms. Jardim to help us with this, as well? We are looking around Vila Real, in the north of the country, if that gives you any guidance about recommending someone we can work with in that part of Portugal.

    Thanks so much!
