Places to stay in Portugal
-
My wife and I are very interestrd in living in Portugal but we would first like to spend a month or so in a rental exploring differrnt sections of tvr country. We both love hiking and the coast, so we are looking for recommendations of where to stay. Also any information anyone might have in finding a place to rent for a month or more would be appreciated. We hope to visit in the April/May time period.
Thanks, Brian & Michele

Hi, Brian and Michele. You can hike all over the country, particularly the stunning cliffs along the western and southern coasts. Given that geography, I might suggest looking for a rental on either the Silver Coast above Lisbon or on the Southern Coast (the Algarve) where I live. Try Idealista.pt to search for a rental for a month. You can scroll along their map of the coastlines. Note that monthly rentals are called Long Lets in Europe. You can also try local long let companies in the areas that you find interesting. For example, there is a company I have used called Lagos Long Lets here. I have also used Air BnB, and simply asked the owner/manager for a break for a month. You should find decent prices in the Spring, good time to explore. Glenda

Hello, My husband and I are also considering moving to Portugal, possibly Tavirna. We of course need to check it out and would like to explore other areas of Portugual. (We've been to Porto and although we loved it, think there may even better economic options for rentals). Do you know if there is a "best" way to get a rental for 2-3 months before going there possibly on the air bnb app with a discount, and or iealista? Also, we have a 9 lb chihaua we will want to bring with us.

I too am trying to find a permanent home in Portugal. I have visited many times. The South is probably the nicest area if you like year round sunshine and never too cold. Porto is very nice up north but it tends to get high rainfall in Winter. The south is the most expensive place to buy a property. The silver coast has some interesting coastal towns. Lisbon is probably the cheapest Capital City in Europe to purchase property and is a beautiful city. Good Luck. Ian
