Hello - my husband and I are considering a move to Portugal. In researching the D7 Visa requirements according to the Portugalist website I am reading that in 2025 the financial requirements for a single person are approx $870Euro along with $10,440Euro in a Portugise savings account. I am also reading that to include a spouse add 50% or $435 Euro. I am about to retire and start receiving my SS. My husband is 8 yrs younger. If I am understanding the requirments correctly; does it mean that both my husband and I can quailfy using just my SS income? Thank you for any help!

Yes, as long as your Social Security is equal to or above the monthly income requirement, you should qualify. Bear in mind, however, that these minimum amounts are subject to adjustment based on the opinion of the consular officials who are processing your application. Sometimes they will ask for a higher monthly income especially if you have chronic medical issues. But in general, a guaranteed government pension is the best source of income you can have for Portugal.

I am interested in this conversation also and would like to be included in any answeres forwarded. My hubby & I are retired w/savings, not drawing SS yet, but want to live in various places in Europe to do extended travel from a base location there. Considering Portugal for that.
