Hello, hubby and I thnking of leaving US and moving to Portugual. Our tentative plan is to visit
for 90 days and determine if and where this idea is plausible. Sometimes I get really excited about
the idea, and other times I think we are nuts. I can retire, hubby too young. Anyone else thinking
along these lines, even other countries? US doesn't feel like our place anymore.

Hi Stephanie, we are Dan and Sharon from Los Angeles, also planning to scout our new home during a 5 week trip in April. Excitement, then overwhelm, then paralysis, then renewed energy to get the heck out of this new America, despite all the work, emotions and unknowns. We will both work remotely just a few hours a week and really looking forward to going wherever the wind blows. Will you be at the conference in Albufeira in April? If so would love to connect. . .

Hi, we are feeling the same way, ever more so with each day. We're doing a scouting trip in early June then we'll see.

    Hi, Stephanie,
Im newly retired and spouse and I are lookingat Portugal and Spain. I'd like to get a secound PP (EU) to make it easier (US Citizen now). How are you dealing with citizenship, housing, etc? WIll you buy or rent? Keeping your current US residence and renting it out or what?

    Hi
I AM looking at moving to Portugal and wondering if your still thinking about your move? I am artist and still have a studio here in the states and really looking hard at a country to move to. I've always wanted to live in another country and feel like I need to get out before it gets worse. My sister wants to "scout" with me to Portgual. Any information is welcome. Ted Gillespie

I am retiring the end of July and plan to do a scouting trip to Portugal for 2 months in Feb. 2025. Also going to the Costa del Sol region of Spain, the Canary Islands, and Malta - these trips will be April through June. All trips for the purpose of making a truly informed decision that best fits me. By the way, you're not crazy. Have a back up plan so if you don't like it after 6 months to a year, you can always return to the US. That's one of my back up plans. The other is that I can try each country for a few months and then decide. Since the Shengren area has a limit on how long you can stay in any of its nations, hoping over to the UK is a great option. That way, you're still close enough to the EU to return without flying back to the US.

I am planning to retire next May and am getting truely obsessed with the idea of moving to Europe (right now it's Portugal, but who knows until I do more research). My plan is to rent out my home here in the US and rent in Europe for 1-2 years (or more if I love it). I want to use it as a base for travel to the rest of Europe. I keep reading that I'll be able to live off my soc security in Europe, I can't do that in the US. And I'm feeling more and more like this country is no longer my heart and soul.
