Hi everyone. My husband and I are traveling to Costa Rica in July for an International Living conference. Any suggestions on airline travel leaving from the Washington DC-Baltimore area? Seems like direct flights leave at 1 am and the nondirect/layover ones go to the West Coast with very long layovers....suggestions would be most welcome!

My family and I are also flying to Costa Rica in July 2024 from the DC area. I think you can also find flights through Panama City (PTY) airport, but they usually include an overnight layover in Panama City. Might not be a bad option, though. The direct, 1:00 am flight options are the cheapest, but least desirable, for sure! I've found that Google Flights (https://www.google.com/travel/flights) is a great tool to use to find your next flight! Hope that helps!

I was just looking on GOOGLE FLIGHTS and I would search flights Avianca, Spirit, Delta, Copa Airlines, and America. Those were the airlines with only one layover.

I also looked up JET BLUE as that is who I always fly from Liberia to NYC for usually $500 or less. And it looks like JETBLUE flies from Washington to SJO. I see flights for between $325 to $550 on their website.

I always try to avoid overnight flights too. They are really exhausting.

Hello, I am leaving from BWI Airport if you can get here. There's a good selection of flights and airlines that travel to Costa Rica. I am going to the conference in July also. For example, my flight leaves at 6:45, with a short layover in Orlando; then on to Costa Rica with arrival time 12:45; Going back it's a direct flight of 4 hours and change!

Thanks Mike - I'll add that Panama's Copa Airlines also offers free long layovers if anyone who's passing through wants to stay a couple days and explore, see their website for info. Copa.com
